About The Artist

About The Artist:

A rtist Barbara McDonald has always been creative, designing and drawing since childhood. It was in high school that her art teacher noticed she had a flair for portrait work, capturing the character, emotion and soul of the subject. To her the process of transforming an empty piece of paper into a captivating portrait is a magical process. Like many artist today, Barbara works from photographs and her subject matter is usually intuitive. "I see a face, a figure or location and something resonates inside me." She usually layers from light to dark, frequently spending long periods of time, maybe 35 to 45 hours, working out areas of detail on one drawing. Her process is thoughtful, slow and meticulous because she is focusing on capturing the essence of the subject. Her favorite portrait work is illustrating people and children from third-world countries. Barbara has come full circle and is sharing her artwork and passion with many organizations and groups.

Mission:
My life purpose is to capture and immortalize portraits of people and children from all walks of life on this earth. To create a legacy and share with you a glimpse into the soul of their lives.
